Our thematic Areas (what we do)

 Gender,  Protection and economic justice.

Promote gender  sensitive development intervention at household and community levels, conduct research for generation of evidence to   Mitigate GBV risks  and respond to violence against women and girls; boys and men and Violence Against  Children(VAC). We  promote rights of women  in informal businesses especially women cross border traders, street vendors,  sex workers , women domestic workers and  women in  salt  mining industry  and enhance their capacity to know their rights and responsibilities  to access economic justice and resources to mitigate sextortion.

Menstrual Hygiene Management

We promote interventions and raise awareness on menstrual hygiene management for women and girls of reproductive age in emergencies and Development context.

It is vital to the empowerment and well-being of women and girls worldwide. It is about more than just access to sanitary pads and appropriate toilets – though those are important. It is also about ensuring women and girls live in an environment that values and supports their ability to manage their menstruation with dignity. Globally, at least 500 million women and girls lack proper access to menstrual hygiene facilities. Several factors influence difficult experiences with menstruation, including inadequate facilities and materials, menstrual pain, fear of disclosure, and inadequate knowledge about the menstrual cycle (World Bank 2018).

Gender-Environment and development Action takes into consideration menstrual hygiene management, education, provision and trainings in re-usable sanitary pads.

Adolescent Reproductive Health (ADRH)  and Maternal Child Health.

To promote appropriate reproductive health interventions at community, health facilities and schools. To Increase young people’s knowledge on Sexual reproductive  Health(SRH) to enhance their capacity to make healthy sexual choices (Adolescent sexual and reproductive health), Increasing access to adolescent- friendly SRHR education and services. Health Education on family planning services, Referrals for family planning services, GEDA also looks at organizing mobile community family planning clinics in conjunction with health facilities. To advocate for an inclusive environment for realization of reproductive health rights of young people in the region and the nation as a whole. Similarly, GEDA conducts Sourcing, packaging and dissemination of SRH information to several Health center points, through IEC materials, Social media, Radio and other platforms. GEDA Uganda also creates awareness and access to HIV/AIDS prevention services to the communities with much emphasis on teenage mothers, Youth and Sex workers.

 Food and Nutrition.

Promoting food and nutrition security  and food safety at  household and community level, so as to  improve the nutrition status of children under the age of 5 (CU5)  years, Women of Reproductive Age (WRA), Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW). This is done through nutrition advocacy, promotion of kitchen gardening, production and consumption of nutrient dense foods, health and nutrition education,nutrition counseling,food and cooking demonstration, food security and nutrition research, nutrition screening and building capacity of community structures like VHTs and leaders on nutrition.

Environment,Energy and climate justice.

We  promote gender  responsive interventions and innovations in natural resource management  and enhance access to efficient and  renewable energy technologies for women and girls and influence planning processes at household, community, local governments and national levels to ensure  development of gender responsive  plans, budgets and policy frameworks.

GEDA Uganda also takes into account wild life and Natural resources protection as a key area of engagement. Operating along protected areas like Queen Elizabeth and Mt.Rwenzori National Parks with the associated risks to wild life like poaching, illegal wood cutting from national parks among others gives us a challenge to offer support. we offer sensitization of the communities on the dangers of illegal entry into the protected areas, offer alternative sources of livelihood, energy sources to reduce on the illegal cutting of trees in the protected areas.

Youth Empowerment 

 We promote and advocate for skills as an important factor to address the challenge  of high youth unemployment in Uganda  and  improve youth  transitions to decent, gainful and   dignified work. This thematic area mainly targets the adolescent mothers,  youth out of school, Youth with special needs, youth in refugee settlements, youth in  Displaced people’s camps(IDPs) and youth from landing sites, youth on border areas and youth living adjacent to protected areas. We organise motivational  sessions for the youth  with youth role models to inspire fellow youth, youth peer to peer learning and exposure for action learning. 

We enhance the youth  capacity  to lobby and advocate youth friendly development programmes and policy frameworks.

 ICT for Development (ICT4D) 

To source, package and disseminate information using ICT tools to ignite community driven initiatives in gender, environment, disasters as well as prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations.We promote online learning  and other Web2.0 tools  for online marketing. GEDA Uganda believes in and promotes ICT solutions for community challenges.

Research and Consultancy

To conduct professional research and consultancies using the modern data collection technologies to inform development actions, influence policies and decision making processes. we Build the capacity of Community Based Organisations, NGOs, Local Governments, Faith Based Organisations and others in institutional development, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL).

Humanitarian Response

To save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of man-made crises and natural disasters as well as prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations.
