Kasese Municipality situated in western Uganda with support from Expertise France initiated a project entitled “Livelihood Improvement and Climate Change Response through Restoration of Degraded Landscapes” in response to the pressing need for environmental sustainability and climate change resilience partnering with GEDA Uganda in implementation.

This project aligns to both the Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP) approved by the Municipal council in 2021 and the Urban Forestry Management Plan (2023-2032.

The primary objective of the project was to augment vegetation cover and implement soil water conservation measures, fostering ecosystem enrichment and improved livelihoods, with the active involvement of the local community.

The projects aims at;

  1. Increasing awareness and build capacity of all stakeholders taking deliberate consideration of women, men, youth, elderly and people living with disability.
  2. Promoting and supporting establishment of soil and water conservation measures on a minimum of 15ha of individual farmers/public land to restore degraded hotspots and reduce/control runoff to control soil erosion and siltation, restore deforested and degraded communal and individual land through tree growing (afforestation, reforestation, and agroforestry)
  3. Promoting the adoption of sustainable afforestation practices for livelihood enhancement and Local climate modification and ecotourism.
